Polycystic liver disease genes: Practical considerations for genetic testing
نویسندگان
چکیده
The development of a polycystic liver is characteristic the monogenic disorders: autosomal dominant kidney disease (ADPKD), recessive (ARPKD), and (ADPLD). Respectively two one genes mainly cause ADPKD ARPKD. In contrast, ADPLD caused by at least six different which combined do not even explain in over half population. Genetic testing performed to confirm likelihood developing PKD if renal therapy essential. However, pure patients are frequently genetically screened as knowledge about genotype-phenotype correlation currently limited. This paper will clarify essence genetic patients.

Liver transplantation for adult polycystic liver disease.
Polycystic liver disease, commonly associated with polycystic kidney disease, can result in massive hepatomegaly and debilitating symptoms. Surgical intervention for symptomatic polycystic liver disease has been associated with significant morbidity and inconsistent long-term palliation; it is more appropriate in patients with a single dominant cyst or cysts which is/are confined to one lobe. A...
متن کاملLiver transplantation for polycystic liver disease.
Polycystic liver disease (PLD) may provoke massive hepatomegaly and severe physical and social handicaps. Data on orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) for PLD are rare and conflicting. Conservative surgery (resection or fenestration) is indicated for large single cysts, but its value for small diffuse cysts is questionable. In addition, conservative surgery is not devoid of morbidity and mort...
متن کاملEthical considerations of genetic presymptomatic testing for Huntington's disease.
The aim of this literature review was to determine if there is adequate ethical justification for presymptomatic genetic testing on potential Huntington's disease patients. Huntington's disease is a neurological genetic disorder characterized by midlife onset which consists of cognitive, physical, and emotional deterioration. Although genetic testing has traditionally been guided by the princip...
متن کاملA practical approach to genetic testing for von Willebrand disease.
von Willebrand disease (vWD) is the most commonly diagnosed congenital bleeding disorder. The laboratory diagnosis of type 2 variants and type 3 vWD is reasonably well defined, and characterization of the von Willebrand factor (vWF) gene has facilitated definition of their molecular basis. However, for type 1 vWD, the laboratory diagnosis poses a diagnostic dilemma, and knowledge of its molecul...
متن کاملIsolated polycystic liver disease.
Isolated polycystic liver disease (PCLD) is an autosomal dominant disease with genetic and clinical heterogeneity. Apart from liver cysts, it exhibits few extrahepatic manifestations, and the majority of patients with this condition are asymptomatic or subclinical. However, a small fraction of these patients develop acute liver cyst-related complications and/or massive cystic liver enlargement,...
